Blue Velvet Shrimp
Originating from Taiwan, Blue Velvet Shrimp are a selectively bred variant of Chocolate shrimp. These captivating shrimp display a stunning range of blue hues, from light to dark, making them a vibrant addition to any aquarium.
Care Requirements: Blue Velvet Shrimp are known for their adaptability and are easy to maintain. They thrive in both soft and hard water conditions, though they exhibit their best color in hard water with a general hardness (gH) of at least 8. Ensure your aquarium is fully cycled before adding these shrimp, with no detectable levels of ammonia or nitrite and nitrate levels kept below 25 ppm. To maintain optimal water quality, perform weekly water changes of 10-20% and feed sparingly—just 2-3 times per week—to avoid overfeeding, which can be harmful to the shrimp.
Breeding Information: Breeding Blue Velvet Shrimp is relatively straightforward. With both a male and female present, breeding will occur naturally. Female shrimp will carry eggs for about 30 days, eventually hatching into miniature versions of their parents. For the survival of the shrimplets, ensure the aquarium is well-established, as they feed on biofilms until they mature. To prevent crossbreeding and ensure offspring retain their vibrant coloration, it is advisable to keep only one strain of Neocaridina shrimp per tank.
